The Death of Queen Elizabeth and the Accession of King Charles

Congratulatory messages are pouring in to London from around the world following the official announcement of Charles III as Britain’s new King.

European Council President Charles Michel has wished the new British monarch “a successful and glorious reign”.

King Felipe VI of Spain sent this message:

On the auspicious occasion of announcing your accession to the throne, I would like to congratulate on our behalf, on our behalf, on behalf of the Spanish government and people.

Even Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his best wishes, saying: “Please accept my sincere congratulations on your accession to the throne. I wish Her Majesty success, good health and best wishes.”

Putin’s message comes as he is waging war against Ukraine, a conflict in which the United Kingdom stands firmly on Kyiv’s side.

Britain has sent weapons to Kyiv and provided military training to help protect the country from unprovoked Russian aggression.

Meanwhile, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan also wished Charles well.

“On behalf of all Londoners, I wish our new monarch King Charles III all the success as His Majesty takes on this important responsibility,” Khan said in a tweet.
